Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of a site administrator assists teachers in the classroom or similar learning situations. Oversees and supervises students during the instruction, assists individually, and in groups, follows prescribed courses of study, performs clerical and paraprofessional tasks both outside and in the classroom.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Personnel in this job classification may perform any combination of the essential duties shown below. Responsibility:

 

  1. May be required to operate or learn to operate electronic teaching machines and computer terminals.
  2. Perform variety of routine clerical and record keeping activities such as collecting monies, filling out forms and applications, and correcting paper.
  3. File and record test scores, grades and other date in student records.
  4. Works with individual children and/or in small groups; interacts with children, encourages positive performance, observes their progress and shares observations with the supervisor.
  5. Performs duties appropriate classroom needs: in reading, math and language skill areas
  6. Gives additional time daily to children identified for additional help, reinforces concepts taught by the teacher.
  7. Works with large groups of children when necessary to enable the teacher to spend additional time with identified children for developmental skill building.
  8. Uses supplementary materials and media to assist children with skill acquisition and application.
  9. Assists with special physical needs of children in wheelchairs: ambulation in the classroom and on campus; transferring to and from the floor, mat and chair; recess activities to ensure safety.
  10. Assists with special physical needs of other children
  11. Assists teacher to meet the needs of students with I.E.P. goals in a learning environment.
  12. Performs playground and/or cafeteria duties as required.
  13. Playground duties include supervising students, enforcing playground rules and requiring equipment be used correctly.
  14. Cares for injured and/or ill children to the extent of personal abilities and training.
  15. Assist in planning and preparing instructional materials.

Qualifications:

 

Minimum

  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent
  2. Maintain effective work relationships
  3. Ability to use and operate basic office equipment and machines including computers
  4. Ability to use basic word processing and spread sheet programs like WORD and EXCEL.
  5. Maintain student and staff confidentiality
  6. Respect confidential nature of pupil records and school reports
  7. Demonstrates correct written and oral use of the English language
  8. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills Possess basic arithmetic skills
  9. Displays appropriate interpersonal skills with staff, students, and parents
  10. Able to prioritize work assigned
  11. Basic understanding of child development characteristics
  12. Complete two years of higher education study (48 units) or obtain an AA degree or higher. Current employees hired before 2002 must pass an academic assessment test.
  13. Meets all state required conditions of employment as set forth by Community Care Licensing for a licensed Community Care Facility; i.e. Fingerprint and Child Abuse Index Clearance, TB/Health Physical, valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record (Motor Vehicle Report)
