Position Title: Support Counselor I

External Description:

Child & Youth Support Counselor

INTRODUCTION

Do you thrive when you can be actively engaged with children as opposed to observing from the sidelines?

Are you looking for an opportunity to provide individualized support and intervention with children and youth?

At Aspiranet, although your primary responsibility is to provide individual supportive services and intervention for caseload of up to six children, the work you’ll remember is showing some of our community’s most vulnerable youth what it feels like to engage with an adult who’s there to support and encourage them.  And in return, you’ll understand what it means to change the direction of another person’s life.

YOUR OPPORTUNITY

As a Support Counselor with Aspiranet in Long Beach, California, you’ll work one-on-one with at-risk youth and their families to implement treatment and intervention plans. Through your coaching and guidance, you’ll help to strengthen their foundation, enabling them to thrive in daily life. Whether you are meeting with your client individually or in a family setting, you’ll provide support and intervention through regular contacts, including weekly home visits. You will meet with your clients around their schedules, so you’ll adjust your day accordingly.

As a trauma-informed care provider, you understand common symptoms of trauma can include defiance, profanity, and disrespect, which can be directed at caregivers. By building a strong, positive, caring relationship, you’ll create a safe space for your client to share and seek guidance during challenging times. You will use creative thinking and ideas to develop interventions and help your clients develop coping skills for life’s challenges. You’ll help clients to adapt to unfortunate circumstances with a mixture of empathy and assertiveness. Knowing you believe in them, you become a catalyst that helps them progress.

You’ll be part of an important team that includes social workers, parent partners, program managers and clinicians to provide the best support for the youth. As a team member, you’ll document and share your experiences with the client and the status of the treatment and intervention plans with the team.

This flexible opportunity with some evening and weekend hours will allow you to do something you’re passionate about while gaining real-world experience working in social services. This is the ideal position for a recent college graduate looking for an enriching experience to launch their career, a social services professional who enjoys working with youth, or someone pursuing their Master’s degree in social work or a related field.

YOUR GROWTH

Aspiranet supports your success at each step. You’ll gain valuable in-house and external training to support your success in your role. This is an excellent opportunity to begin your career with the ability to advance throughout the organization once you’ve developed additional skills. There is plenty of room for advancement, both through the county and state-wide.

YOUR REWARDS

Aspiranet offers a competitive salary, an exceptional team-based environment, and a great benefits package that includes employer-paid healthcare, dental, vision and wellness care. Aspiranet rewards you for the work you do – engaging with your clients and helping them meet their goals.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

If you have an Associate’s degree in a social services-related field and 1 year of experience, or if you have a Bachelor’s degree and six months of experience, apply right now. You also must meet all required conditions of employment, including background clearances, a valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation.
