Your Impact

The Educational Specialist II-Cal Learn provides assistances to pregnant and /or parenting teens to remove educational barriers and develop the necessary resources and supports to earn a high school diploma or equivalent.  This may include providing linkages to health services, parenting skills, or suitable living arrangements during monthly contact with the client.

Aspiranet’s Transitional Aged Youth (TAY) services close a critical gap for youth who are preparing for their transition to exit the foster care system towards independent living.  Serving youth ranging in age from 14-25, our multi-faceted approach ensures youth receive the guidance to support housing, employment, education, wellness, and other needs they may have for a successful transition.  

Your Skills & Duties

  • Work in coordination with caregivers, county departments, supervisor and service team in implementing the county-developed developed plan. Request referrals from the County Eligibility Workers for educational services necessary for client to earn a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Provide support, resources, and linkages designed to enhance the teen parent’s parenting skills, facilitate an effective relationship between the teen parent and any identified noncustodial parents, and the child, when it is in the best interest of the child and teen parent, and assess the suitability of the teen parent’s living situation, in an effort to assist the teen in identifying and removing barriers to educational goals.
  • Act as an advocate and role model so that each teen parent has someone to trust and to turn to for advice, guidance, and ideas.
  • Ensure that each teen parent understands the program requirements and consequences of not making adequate or satisfactory progress.
  • Submit program exemption, program deferral, good cause, bonus and sanction determinations or recommendations to County Eligibility Workers.
  • Help facilitate a supportive relationship between the client and County Eligibility Workers to promote progress and achievement of service plan goals and document all direct client contact on CL 700 communication form.
  • Secure, coordinate, and maintain communications with providers of services to children/youth.
  • Maintain monthly contact with each program participant.
  • Complete timely and accurate client records.
  • Participate in program staff meetings and trainings as required by Agency.
  • Provide accurate weekly schedule to supervisor.
  • Support and model Aspiranet’s values, represent the Agency in a professional manner, and abide by the Agency’s Professional Code of Ethics.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with staff, families, children/youth and community resources.
  • Complete administrative paperwork (time sheets, mileage, time off requests, weekly schedule, etc.) on time.
  • Participate in individual weekly case review, individual and group supervision, staff meetings and special events.
  • Maintain client and case confidentiality per Agency, state and federal standards.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences.
  • Pursue training deemed necessary based on the needs of children/ families supported.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • BA in Social Work or related field and related work experience.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in working with children and case management experience.
  • Meets all state required conditions of employment as set forth by Community Care Licensing for a Licensed Community Care facility; i.e. Fingerprint and child Abuse Index clearance, TB/Health Physical, valid CDL and clean driving record.
