Your Future Team

Aspiranet’s Residential Program is home to young men ages 10-18. The Youth Care Professional (YPC) works collaboratively with our youth, parents, social workers and clinical staff to implement a strength based and trauma informed plan to assist our youth on their path to a brighter future.  As a YPC you will assigned to one of eight cottages. Your primary responsibility is to provide the day-to-day care and supervision of six to eight youth in your cottage.

Your Impact

The Behavior Intervention Specialist responsible for supervising, protecting and caring for residents of the STRTP program both individually and in groups at all times. Major responsibilities include providing frequent on-call support to the cottages assigned when the YCP staff need support in managing youth or young adults demonstrating acting out behavior that could potentially place the cottage residents and staff at risk, problem solving, incident documentation, safety monitoring, violation and child abuse reporting, and training.

Your Skills and Duties

  • Meet with youth and YCP staff to develop rapport. Be genuine, be warm, show interest and become familiar with the culture of each cottage.
  • Attend treatment team meetings to become familiar with the background of all of the youth and young adults in the program.
  • Provide on-call support to the cottages assigned.
  • Work with YCP staff to identify opportunities to prevent youth from escalating behaviors in the cottage utilizing early intervention techniques. Including being physically present in the home when a resident(s) shows the potential for escalation.
  • Transfer intervention skills to the YCP staff and other caring for the residents.
  • Monitor success of interventions and report to the treatment team.
  • Report out to the team when interventions aren’t successful and provide analysis.
  • Provide CPI training no less than quarterly and more frequently as requested by the Human Resource Department.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required for transportation or training purposes.
  • Take the lead as needed with emergency behavioral interventions in compliance with the CPI training you receive and agency policies and procedures. Resident restraints will be required in the course of your duties. You may only participate in such restraints if your certification is valid and in good standing.
  • Utilize training in the Core Practice Model, Five Protective Factors, Trauma Informed Practice and the Prudent Parent Model when making decisions and interacting with residents, scheduling activities and responding to behavioral issues.
  • Be prepared for and attend program meetings and regular supervision.
  • Accurately report incidents, grievances, complaints, issues and concerns and the related documentation to the Cottage Manager and Administrator in a timely manner.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with staff, clients and community resources.
  • Maintain client and case confidentiality per HIPPA, State and Agency standards.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences.
  • Support and model Aspiranet’s values, represent the Agency in a professional manner and abide by the Agency’s Professional Code of Conduct.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education & Work Experience

  • A.S. or B.S. Degree in a related field preferred or
  • Have a valid Child Development Teaching Permit or
  • Have completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, or Foster and Kinship Care Education and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth or
  • Have previously been employed as a staff or volunteer at a group home or short-term residential therapeutic center for at least one year or
  • Have a valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth or
  • Have a valid Vocational Training certificate, credential or documentation demonstrating that the individual is a trade journey person who instructs children in vocational skills and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth or
  • Have relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver or other relevant experience as determined by the department

Licenses & Certifications

  • Meets all state required conditions of employment as set forth by funder and regulatory body; i.e. Fingerprint and Child Abuse Index Clearance, TB/Health Physical, valid CDL and clean driving record.
  • Becomes CPI trainer certified within 90 days of hire

Compensation: $15.00 - $17.00 DOE
Hours: Variable Weekends.
